Ernst Zinsser - Hidden Master of the 1950s
There is no doubt that Ernst Zinsser belongs to the significant representatives of the so called “Nachkriegsmoderne” (post-war-modernism) in Germany and yet due to a lack of medial presence he hides in shadow of his rather famous colleagues such as Friedrich Wilhelm Kraemer or Dieter Oesterlen.
As an engineer and photographer with a special spot for the architecture of Ernst Zinsser, Hartmut Möller concentrated intensively on the structures of this extraordinary builder within the last year.
To capture and analyze the actual state of Zinsser's houses contemporary pictures were taken. while that contacts to the owners, inhabitants and users (who certainly do know about the architecturally quality) evolved and allowed rare views inside those masterworks.
The generated shots were presented in an expo as an homage to a designer who massively dominated Hanover’s cityscape in the 1950s and thus deserves a fitting tribute today. it focuses on seven landmarks which are presented in overall views, façade detailing and interior pictures with outstanding character.
An accompanying publication furthermore covers the complete, preserved - sometimes heavily remodeled - inventory from Zinsser local oeuvre. the staggering amount shows his zest and virtuosity in a variety of construction tasks in confined spaces, as it should probably be rarely found.
The exhibition takes place until the 22nd of July in the showrooms of k+a architekten (Hanover, Germany) and is planned to move on to additional locations. The catalogue is printed by Wasmuth for € 19,80 and contains 104 photos, an introduction by the author and a foreword by prestigious architectural historian Sid Auffarth.
